German: Deine Freunde - Einfach klein sein (song)

Here is Christina with another great German song:
"Einfach klein sein" by Deine Freunde.

The Goethe Institute recommends this band and gives a great description of their unique style:

Hip Hop meets Pop meets Electro meets preschool meets fun. This combination sounds pretty odd but perfectly characterizes the music of “Deine Freunde” (Your Friends) – a mixture of different genres that creates a super cool sound.

The lyrics are all about everyday problems little kids and adults have to deal with – lyrics that are funny but never silly!

Einfach klein sein

Manchmal will ich einfach klein sein,
Und ich weiß nicht, wie das geht.
Manchmal kann der Tag gemein sein,
Ohne dass man was erlebt.
Manchmal will ich einfach klein sein,
Und ich weiß nicht, wie das geht.
Manchmal kann der Tag gemein sein...

Meine Eltern möchten,
dass ich mal Karriere mach´.
Deswegen soll ich
tausend Sachen machen, jeden Tag.
Ich soll die Dinge lernen,
um die es geht im Leben.
Deswegen muss ich Schach spielen
und Chinesisch reden.

Wozu ich Lust hab?
Tut mir leid, mir fällt nix ein,
Denn ich muss gerade wieder
irgendwo der Beste sein.
Und wie es aussieht,
wird sich das nie wieder ändern.
Andere haben Spaß,
ich hab einen Terminkalender.

Sie scheuchen mich,
erst dorthin, dann hierhin,
Und alles nur,
weil ich angeblich so talentiert bin.
Und das muss ich
euch jetzt jeden Tag beweisen
Und aufzählen,
wie irgendwelche Nebenflüsse heißen.

Mein alter Spielplatz,
du warst so farbenfroh.
Keine Zeit mehr für dich,
der Ernst des Lebens wartet schon.
Dabei will ich doch nur eine Runde
auf dir hocken
Und später dann nach Hause kommen
mit schmutzigen Klamotten.

Manchmal will ich einfach klein sein,
Und ich weiß nicht, wie das geht.
Manchmal kann der Tag gemein sein,
Ohne dass man was erlebt.

Ohne dass man was erlebt.
Manchmal will ich einfach klein sein,
Und ich weiß nicht, wie das geht.
Manchmal kann der Tag gemein sein...

Ein Kind macht keinen Spaß.
Ein Kind soll sich lohnen.
Ein Kind muss man füttern
Mit Informationen.

Mutter:

Just be little

Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean,
And I haven’t even experienced anything.
Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean…

My parents want
me to get ahead.
That’s why they want me
to do a thousand things every day.
They want me to learn the things
that are important in life.
That’s why I have to learn to play chess
and speak Chinese.

What I feel like doing?
Sorry, I can’t think of anything,
Because right now I have to be
again the best at something.
And it is looking like
that will never change.
Others have fun,
I have an appointment calendar.

They chase me around,
first here, then there,
And all of it just
because I’m supposedly so talented.
And now I have to
prove that to you all every day
And list off
the names of some river tributaries.

My old playground,
you were so colorful.
No more time for you,
the earnestness of life is already waiting.
Though all I want is just to spend
some time with you
And then later come home
with dirty clothes.

Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean,
And I haven’t even experienced anything.
Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean…

From nothing nothing comes,
but from a lot comes too much.
I’m too young to realize
that life is not a game.
Because if I’m honest,
I’m really up for some playing,
And I don’t mean Memory,
today even a stick would be enough.

Yet I’m being watched
by stickless eyes,
That don’t sympathize with me,
because they don’t believe in sticks.
Therefore I have to
pay attention to important things,
To the right things,
not the ones in my room.

Yeah, what I need are sensible goals.
That’s why I’m now training
for the Olympic Games.
Because my parents expect more
from me than from themselves,
I hope that
 I get all gold medals.

Because only then am I truly a golden boy.
I do everything
to make my parents proud.
Only going to the beauty pageant
is often really tough for me,
But Mom comes with
and she really loves it.

Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean,
And I haven’t even experienced anything.
Sometimes I just want to be little,
And I don’t know how that works.
Sometimes the day can be mean…

A kid is no fun.
A kid should be worth it.
A kid needs to be fed
With information.

Mother:
At first he didn’t even want to learn the recorder, but with kids this age you’ve just got to keep at them. Practice, practice, practice. We also want him to learn the violin and harpsichord. By the way, I heard that a talent agent was in the audience today.
I think we’ve got good odds.
